Reading 06 - Week 18

This week I have to say I actually enjoyed the reading task which I wont lie I haven't lie I haven't be a huge fan of this semester just because it isn't my strong suit. I found myself putting it off this week because I had to go back and look for areas where my themes overlapped in more of my sources. Once I started I found myself actually flying through the work load.  I think a big reason as to why I flew through the work this week once I started was because of the lecture this week I found it really helpful and helped me in terms of seeing what exactly I was meant to do and I know that the past few weeks that wasn't exactly possible. 

I found I spent a lot of my time figuring out new ways to word things as when taken out of the paragraphs they where in they didn't make as much sense or sorting through loads of information to gather trends of information that together connected between all of the papers that had those themes. I did find this to be where I struggled most as I found myself having to read this back only to realize they still didn't make sense and this took me a while to deal with. I'm looking forward to the next few weeks of the reading tasks.

Game Idea Research

The game idea I have chosen to continue through out the rest of the semester is my puzzle themed game. Going off the feedback that Shaun has given me and my own research I have done I believe this is the best course of action. Firstly it was my most thought out game idea and one I am most interested in making.   What is a Game Anyway?  After completing a reading of  What is a game anyway? by Ian Schreiber, it is evident that several points where raised by the author of the paper. These points include the lack of a universal definition of what a game is, the weakness of definition and how simple making a game really is. The following blog will address these points in greater detail.  To begin with the author explains what his definition of what a game is, it being "a play activity with rules that involves conflict" direct quote What is a Game Anyway? by Ian Schreiber. Unity Toutorial 03

 I have just completed  this weeks Unity tutorials, which are Lessons 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3. I found these tasks very enjoyable and challenging as there were a few part I had to watch back a few times to figure out where I was going wrong.  This week the tutorial was based around a animals and pizza. Yes you read that correctly. It basically consisted of three animals, a farmer and pizza. The main objective of the game is to feed the animals food to stop them. You would generate the pizza by pressing down the space bar and use the S key to spawn animals randomly around game. This is an area I found a tad confusing. So we had to use animal prefabs and place them in the spawn manager. This came easy however when righting the code for the spawn manager I misspelled several key phrases and cause the game to not operate correctly. After comparing my code to the code in the tutorial I realized I had added letter and was missing some letters as well. (Thanks Dyslexia.). I was actually really happy
