Twitter task 10

Image
So for my twitter task this week I choose task 10. This task meant I would have to create two lists.  One for my classmates and the other for game developments and multimedia.  So for the first one I just followed the steps on how to make a list but I have to say at first I was so confused as I was using the website version of twitter and I'm more used to the app version so even though they are very similar it was a little confusing. So after I figured it out I just started adding people I follow in the class  to my CDM list .  For the second List I went about finding some game development accounts by searching #gamedevelopment and similar hashtags and added accounts from that.  Game dev/ multimedia   I have never used Lists before and I have been using Twitter for years but I think going forward I will be using them.  Caption: Screen shot of my lists

Game Alpha

Image
This week I spent 3 hours working on my game alpha. This week was better than last week.  This week I started by looking at the player controls and fixing so that the player could choose to move forward when they wanted so I  went to my Player Controller script and had to change some code as the code I was using allowed for the player to move left and right but just made the player zoom off forward with no control on this. That wasn't what I wanted so I went looking for a tutorial and found this code which I used and modified to allow for the arrow keys up, left and right to be used.  Image Caption: My code to control the player  I then added in doors from the Tim's Horror Assets - The Bloody Door  asset set I add 7 doors one at the end of each room. However as I still need to add in a puzzle I have no way of actually opening the doors yet. I then realized when I started the game the doors flew away so I added a Rigidbody component to keep them in place. I then tried to make

Unity Tutorial 09

Image
So this week was all kinds of messy to put it lightly. This weeks unity tutorials consisted of completing Lesson 4 and Challenge 4.  So this week I began Lesson  4.4 and I had a feeling that it was gonna be full of issues because last week was and last week was the first 3 sections of this lesson. Anyway I began working and since I knew the code was broken I just followed along and if it was a case that I could check if the code was working like it should I did I did every step but the game wasn't running like it should but I knew the steps and did them the exact same as the video so I'm guessing it's a issue with the code.  I then moved on to the Challenge and honestly when I got the first one right I was actually happy cause I then knew it was the code in the previous lesson that was the issue and not me. I carried on throughout the Challenge and everything was working till it came time to make the enemy balls move and I spent about I'd say half an hour on this and no

Week 9 Reading and Writing

Image
Looking Back Overall the reading assignments weren't my strong suit because of my dyslexia so they were taking way to long and causing a loot of stress for me for the 2 weeks that I did them. I choose after the second reading week to stop doing them as they were causing me too much stress also I am aiming for a B in this module so from working out the points I would need to achieve that grade and realized I didn't need them. From the two I did do I felt they did help to some degree they help me to get my head around some aspects that I was struggling to rap my head around like what actually constitutes what a game is. I don't have a favorite reading week task seeing as I only did two. I feel happy so far with my game Project and I do think that the two reading tasks helped with that. I think my biggest accomplishment for this class would be honestly just keeping up with the work and not falling behind especially with the current way of the world.  Image Link to original sou

Reading Week Comments and Feedback

Image
Feedback In Overall I would rate the quality of the comments that I have received from other students highly. Some comments have been very helpful in making me rethink my original thought process and help me make better decisions when it comes to my game idea or just practical elements like adding in music or sound effects. Others have been helpful in another way which was they kept me motivated to keep working and not just give up and worry about the problem another day. For these reasons I rate the quality of all the comments I have received highly as every comment in my opinion has contributed something positive to me. If I had to give a score for them it would be a 8/10. The reason it's not 10 out of 10 however is because some very few seem a bit rushed.  Feedback Out I would rate the quality of the comments and feedback that I am leaving for other students to be high. As I always take the time to read their blog post fully and address specific areas of their blogs and do my be

Learning Challenge: Empathy Challenge: I wish my teacher knew...

Image
Empathy Challenge: I wish my teacher knew... I found this story to be very moving but also heart breaking I'm not sure how else to explain it. I think good ways to be compassionate and empathetic while respecting someone's privacy is to just let them know your there for them. Empathy isn't so easy I think honestly the best way to show your empathetic to someone is by just listening to them and making sure they can clearly see your facial expressions they tend to show empathy best. You could share how your feeling and some of your own struggles if appropriate to let them know they aren't alone I know this has helped me when people have done this with me. I have never participate din something like I wish my teacher knew. I do think it is a very good idea because I know sometimes I am struggling in areas and my work suffers a bit but I won't feel comfortable saying anything so I feel an anonymous type thing would help.  Link to Source Caption: The difference between

Growth Mindset: Share the Growth Mindset Concept with Someone

Image
Share the Growth Mindset Concept with Someone  So I have just finished having a conversation with my friend Joe about the growth mindset. Joe ha never heard of the growth mindset idea. From taking a look at his school life he is not fully applying the growth mindset in them he is however applying aspects of the mindset in his school life.  During our discussion I explained what the Growth Mindset was and the key characteristics of what makes it up as i felt these were the most important aspects that can clearly explain the mindset clearly. We spoke about these in depth for quite a while and Joe agreed with most of the mindset. He has said he will go on to apply this to his school work in the future.  Link to source Caption: Keep Learning and Sharing Knowledge

First playable (Kinda)

Image
Hey guys, So this weeks Prototype was a bit of a mess there was ups and downs to put it lightly.  So This week I spent a bit more than 2 hours on it just because I was being stubborn. I really wanted to get the game to a playable stage but there were a few complications that kept men from making it 100 percent playable. So I began by finishing off the few bits of the maze's walls. That took maybe 20 -30 minutes so that was fine. So I moved on to controlling the player and this is took up the rest of my time I was trying get the player moving with code and I did get the player to move left and right he just glides basically so next week I hope to get it where the player will turn when pressing the right and left arrows. However when the player starts to move the player has no control on the forward movement so this will need to be fixed next week.  So thanks to these issues I didn't get to implement my puzzles yet. I also have the camera following the player in the first perso

Unity Tutorial 07

Image
Hey guys, another week another Unity tutorial and when I say I disliked this week I mean it.  This weeks Unity tutorials where Lessons 4.1, 4.2, 4.3. I actually did have any major problems this week except in on section Section 4.1 the last step. So I followed along and did exactly what the tutorial did and it didn't work so I re did it and re-did it and again and again. You get the idea so after a lot of tries I decided to move on and do the rest of the tutorials and I basically did everything else perfect and everything worked no problems anywhere else in the code or the tutorials my only issue is in that one very last section of Lesson 4.1. So basically I don't where I went wrong with that but maybe it's because I've been staring at the issue for to long and all that maybe fresh eyes can help me out. So if you can see the issue in my code could you let me know in the comment section below. I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks! Other than that I really one issue I d

Growth Mindset: My mantra

Image
I first heard this quote when I watched civil war at 16 but I didn't really understand it till I re-watched it like 3 years ago maybe when I was going through a really bad time where I was push everyone away but basically I started repeating this to myself at what seemed random times but I then realized I would say it when I was stressed. Like when I would be pushing myself to be perfect all the time. So since then I've been using this.   The words to this motto of mine is None us can go back. All we can do is our best. it is a quote from Captain America civil war.  I created this on Cavna.

Learning Challenge: Data Reveals How Some College Students Sleep by Anya Kamenetz Review

Image
Data Reveals How Some College Students Sleep by Anya Kamenetz Review  I decided to read the article on sleep titled Data Reveals How Some College Students Sleep by Anya Kamenetz.  Here is the link to the article .  What is one thing that this article CONFIRMED for me that I already knew well that would be that "Sleep derivation affects memory, cognition and motivation" I know this because as someone who very frequently doesn't get enough sleep it's something that I am far to familiar with and don't get me wrong I don't wear it as a badge of honor. It's something I am actively trying to change but as someone who has been dealing with it since they were 14 it's actually not easy to just get rid of and there are a lot of factors that lead into it like stress and anxiety and depression among many more.   One NEW thing that i learned was that a lot of students actually get the roughly the correct amount of sleep in the week. Now saying that that's just

Prototype

Image
For this weeks project task i began making my game in Unity and create a prototype. I have spent 3 hours and have done my best to make as much of my game as possible.  I focused mainly on getting the layout of the the maze down which took up majority of my time as you can see below.  What I did  I downloaded a dungeon asset.  I created the maze from there. I began to make the pathways through the maze/ dungeon.  After completing the floor plan I went on to bringing the walls the entire way around the exterior  Added a character  Organized my assets  Positioned my camera.  This is a free asset on the asset store that I found that will be used to make the rest of my maze. https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/3d/environments/dungeons/free-basic-dungeon-133905  To beginning making my game I had to start by making the layout of the maze which I did by Copying the floor tiles to make the path. I then made a divergence in the path but realized there wasn't enough space.  So I added more

Unity Tutorial 06

Image
I have just completed this weeks Unity tutorials and they were really fun. This weeks Unity tutorials consisted of finishing the prototype we started last week and then doing a challenge afterwards. I really enjoyed getting to complete last weeks project as it was one of my favorites we have done so far. So this week was Lesson 3.4 and Challenge 3.  So beginning with Lesson 3.4 I have to say I started out by messing up and opening the wrong save file so I spent like maybe 15 minutes trying to figure out why all my gravity settings and as such were wrong. When I realized I fixed it but felt kinda dumb that I didn't realize sooner in all honesty. But once I fixed everything we were off and there was no stopping me from completing this lesson. I actually completed really quickly and didn't have any major problems after this.  For the challenge I actually had very little issues. Now to get this done I was actually talking to myself to figure things out (It worked I know it sounds

Game Design Document

Image
I have just finished my games design document - here is the link   https://www.dundoc.com/project/6939/v85ah0v03f I created my GDD on Dundoc, this was my first time using Dundoc and I found it a bit confusing at first but after exploring it I quickly found my baring's. I am happy with my finale GDD and I believe it contains  all the information that anyone needs to make my game Escape the Maze.  This is my own image, it is a screenshot of my gdd while I was working on it.

Unity Tutorial 05

Image
I have just completed this weeks Unity tutorials and I can honestly say I enjoyed them even with some of the more challenging aspects. These tutorials where fun as I felt the second set of tutorials where very similar to the first set so I didn't have as much fun with them. This weeks lessons where Lessons 3.1 - 3.3. I do wanna clarify before I go forward that I did struggle at points but compared to the first two sets I struggled a lot less. So begging with the first lesson this one was basically setting up the scene and making the player being able to jump with the use of the spacebar. I must say these set of videos where extremely easy to follow as usually and are so help full and help me get through the process with a lot more ease ( also the x2 button might have helped with the timing but you didn't hear that from me 🤫 ). The second lesson was all about getting the background repeat to give the illusion of the world rushing by as the player runs. I found this section very
